About Morgan Middle School
Morgan Middle School began its life as Ellensburg Junior High. The original structure was built in 1929 and opened in 1931 for grades 7-9 adjacent to Cascade High School.
Ellensburg Junior High was renamed Morgan Junior High in 1934 in honor of beloved educator, John "Pop" Morgan.
In 1971, Morgan became a middle school housing grades 6-8, again changing its name to Morgan Middle School.
In 2012, citing numerous safety concerns and building deficiencies, the Ellensburg School Board voted to close the majority of the original structure until a bond could be passed to modernize or replace the building. Due to limited space, the 8th grade students and staff were temporarily relocated to the north wing of Ellensburg High School.
On February 10, 2015, voters approved a bond to both modernize and add on to the original building. The building was fully occupied by grades 6-8 in the fall of 2018.
