Where are they now? Hampton's Abby Misencik
Ms. Abby Misencik is A.W. Beattie’s Student Teacher in the Cosmetology program.
This post-graduation scholarship is a pathway toward becoming a licensed teacher in the Cosmetology field. Ms. Misencik graduated from Hampton in 2022.
“It’s different not being a student anymore and knowing that I’m responsible for helping to teach students who are a year or two younger than I am,” she said. “It’s exciting. I remember being in their shoes, especially the new students in the first year of the program. I want them to know and understand that I love what I do and that it takes work ethic to get to where you want go. I appreciate what I’ve gotten to learn at Beattie and I want them to feel that, too.”
To become a licensed teacher in the Cosmetology field, Ms. Misencik will have to complete 500 hours of student teaching and earn the license through a state board exam.
“A Cosmetology teacher’s license opens more doors in the industry such as speciallizations and hair show presentations,” Ms. Misencik. “I will have a one up on other people who don’t have the same licenses as me, and I will be more marketable to employers due to the additional education I’ve gotten.”
Ms. Misencik is a stylist at Harmony Salon in Wexford.
“For now, I want to stay behind the chair, and one day I would love to be a teacher,” she said. “I really appreciate the experience I’m getting behind the chair and the opportunity to stay at Beattie a little bit longer in a new role. I hope I’m able to help students the way my instructors helped me.
