Mr. Cliff Bossong is A.W. Beattie's Assessment and S.T.E.A.M Coordinator. We asked a few questions to learn more about him, and we will feature another staff member next week.
What was your first job?
Newspaper delivery boy.
How did you become a teacher?
While I was working on my Master’s degree in Biology at Duquesne University, I taught a Bio 101 lab, which I enjoyed. After my thesis defense, I worked for the Department Biological Sciences and took my education classes to become certified to teach.
What do you enjoy most about the science field?
When I started teaching, genetic engineering was just starting to take hold. It was fun teaching about the new “sci fi” aspects of the field to students.
What do you feel is the key to teaching?
You cannot become redundant. You have to keep looking for new ways to present the material and engage the students with hands-on experiences.
What can you be found doing when you’re not teaching?
I love wood working, Pokemon Go, and hockey.
What is your favorite TV show or movie?
My favorite TV show to no one’s surprise was the Big Bang Theory. Caddyshack and Men in Black would have to be my favorite movies.
What activities are at the top of your bucket list?
I would love to ride the Trans Continental Railway in Canada, see the northern lights in Iceland, and return to Maui.
What can you reveal that people might not expect about you?
I have my Master’s degree in Biology for Concentration Virology.
