Return to School Letter to Parents
***Fill out and submit Student Hybrid/Remote Selection Form***
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are looking forward to starting the school year with your son/daughter. In preparation for a safe return to school, we have provided important information and guidelines within this letter. Please know that the career center administration and JOC, in collaboration with teachers and staff, have worked diligently on preparing the health and safety plan for the return of our students. This plan will continue to evolve, so please check the website frequently for important updates.
Masks:
The following requirements are based on the July 16, 2020; Department of Health (DOH) and Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) requirements that students and staff wear face masks during the school day.
Students attending A.W. Beattie Career Center will be required to wear a mask and/or face shield to engage in the type of education offered at the career center. Additionally, all teachers and staff are required to wear a mask and/or face shield.
This latest guidance from the DOH and PDE states that children two years and older are required to wear a face covering unless they have a medical or mental health condition or disability, documented in accordance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act or IDEA, that precludes the wearing of a face covering in school. Accommodations for such students should be made in partnership with the student’s health care provider, school nurse, and IEP/504 team.
Please submit documentation that precludes your son/daughter from wearing a facemask to Dr. Jason Watkins, Assistant Director/Principal, at jason.watkins@beattietech.com, or submit documentation to Susan Hughes, Administrative Assistant, in the front office of the career center.
Travel:
Under guidelines issued by the Allegheny County Health Director, anyone who travels out of state to a “high risk” location will be required to Self-Quarantine for fourteen (14) days before returning to school.
Due to the changing circumstances of this pandemic, please be aware that the “high risk” locations may continuously change, and you are responsible for monitoring this list prior to any travel. As of July 24, 2020, high-risk locations have been identified as:
Alabama | Arizona | Arkansas | California | Florida |
Georgia | Idaho | Iowa | Kansas | Louisiana |
Missippi | Missouri | Nevada | N. Carolina | Oklahoma |
S. Carolina | Tennessee | Texas | Utah | Wyoming |
The locations on this list are subject to change based upon developments. Updates will be provided by Pennsylvania Department of Health on its website: https://www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/Pages/Travelers.aspx
Please contact Susan Hughes, Administrative Assistant, at susan.hughes@beattietech.com if you plan to travel and your son/daughter will be quarantining for 14 days.
Daily attendance:
Students will be given directions from their teacher on remote distance learning days protocol utilized in their program to take daily attendance. Attendance will be recorded daily in Skyward for virtual lessons and in-person classes.
Please submit excuses for absences from remote distance learning and/or in-person classes within 24hrs to studentexcuse@beattietech.com. Please include the parent/guardian name and phone number for verification. You may also submit excuses for absences in the front office to Susan Hughes, Administrative Assistant.
Thank you for your assistance with preparing for the health and safety of our students.
Respectfully,
Dr. Jason Watkins
Assistant Director/Principal
