November 10, 2021 Mask Update
A.W. Beattie Career Center
Health and Safety Plan
November 10, 2021
Dear Beattie families, students and staff,
Early today the Pennsylvania school mask mandate was overturned after a court declared the mandate “void and unenforceable.” This court order is effective immediately.
For the protection of students and staff, A.W. Beattie Career Center will continue to follow the Career Center’s 2021-2022 Updated Health and Safety plan as approved by the Joint Operating Committee on Thursday, August 19, 2021.
The approved plan has three approaches to ensure our continuity of education:
- During levels of substantial and high spread of COVID within Allegheny County all students will be required to wear a face mask and instructors will be required to wear a face mask or shield during the instructional day when inside the building. Allegheny County is currently at a high level of COVID-19 community transmission.
- During a moderate level of transmission within the county all unvaccinated students and staff members will be required to follow the guidance in item #1. All other students and staff members will be encouraged to follow the same guidance.
- During a low level COVID designation in the county, students and staff will not be required to wear a mask or face shield. Students and staff members during this designation may still wear a face mask or shield if they wish.
Our plan has been effective in limiting the number of students and staff with COVID-19 exposure issues related to the activities of the Career Center. The wearing of masks has aided us remaining in class without interruptions. Students that are involved in activities outside of the building will not be required to wear a mask.
Our plan, as stated above will be followed when the transmission rates lower in Allegheny County. The staff of the Career Center appreciates your continued support and cooperation.
Respectfully,
Eric Heasley
Executive Director
