Letter to Parents Outlining First Three Weeks of Hybrid Model

Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,

     Welcome to the 2020-21 school year!  This year is educating all of us, children and adults alike, on flexibility, resiliency, and how to quickly adapt to changing situations. 

     The A. W. Beattie Career Center Joint Operating Committee approved the school’s hybrid plan of education [CONTENT_REVIEW InternalLink].  In this plan, students will be attending classes in the building two days a week and participating in virtual education three days a week.  This model will allow us to have fewer students in the building at a time, supporting social distancing recommendations.  All students and staff must wear masks [CONTENT_REVIEW InternalLink] when in the building and on the buses to and from the Career Center. 

     Students who live in the Avonworth, Hampton Township, North Hills, and Shaler Area school districts will attend in-person classes on Mondays and Tuesdays.  They will attend class in the building during their scheduled morning or afternoon session.  These students will participate in virtual education on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. 

     Students living in the Deer Lakes, Fox Chapel, Northgate, North Allegheny, and Pine-Richland school districts will attend in-person classes on Thursdays and Fridays.  They will attend class in the building during their scheduled morning or afternoon session.  Theses students will participate in virtual education on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.

     To keep the numbers of students in the building balanced throughout the week, students will not be permitted to switch the days they are scheduled for in-person classes. 

     The Career Center is also offering an entirely remote option for students [CONTENT_REVIEW InternalLink].  Please let us know if your student is choosing to attend the hybrid model that include in-person learning or the entirely remote model where the student would not attend in the building.  If you have not already informed us of this, please visit our website at www.beattietech.com.  Go to the “Back to School” link and submit the “Student Hybrid/Remote Selection” form.  Please let us know your choice by Friday, August 28.   

     There have been changes made to our original school calendar.  An updated school calendar is included with this letter. 

     On Monday, August 31, the Career Center will be open if students need to locate their classroom; drop off tools or supplies; complete parking passes; or drop off paperwork.  Students may arrive between 8 AM and 10 AM or 12:30 PM until 2 PM.  The building will be closed to students coming in between 10 AM and 12:30 PM.  There are no classes or bus transportation on Monday, August 31. 

     On Tuesday, September 1, students living in Avonworth, Hampton Township, North Hills, and Shaler Area will attend their scheduled session in person at the Career Center.  All other students have the day off from Career Center learning.

     On Wednesday, September 2, the students living in Avonworth, Hampton Township, North Hills, and Shaler Area will make virtual contact with their instructors.  All other students have the day off from Career Center learning.

     On Thursday, September 3, the students living in Deer Lakes, Fox Chapel Area, Northgate, North Allegheny, and Pine-Richland school districts will attend in person classes at the Career Center.  All other students have the day off from Career Center learning.

     On Friday, September 4, the students living in Deer Lakes, Fox Chapel Area, Northgate, North Allegheny, and Pine-Richland school districts will make virtual contact with their instructors.  All other students have the day off from Career Center learning.

     Monday, September 7, there is no school to celebrate Labor Day.

     On Tuesday, September 8, students living in Avonworth, Hampton Township, North Hills, and Shaler Area will attend their scheduled session in person at the Career Center.  All other students will be responsible for completing the virtual work that their instructor assigned.

     Wednesday, September 9, all students will be working virtually, completing assignments from their instructors. 

     Thursday, September 10 and Friday, September 11, students living in Deer Lakes, Fox Chapel Area, Northgate, North Allegheny, and Pine-Richland school districts will attend in person classes at the Career Center.  All other students will complete virtual work assigned by their instructor. 

     During the week of September 14, the schedule will follow the hybrid model that was outlined in the beginning of this letter.
