Letter to families on Flexible Instruction Days

Letter to families on Flexible Instruction Days

January 2, 2024

Dear Parent(s) and Guardian(s),

A.W. Beattie Career Center has been approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education to provide Flexible Instruction Days (FIDs) to our students for the 2023-24 School Year. FIDs may be used in place of a school day that could be cancelled due to inclement weather or an emergency. FIDs will allow students to complete their learning activities and assignments provided by the teacher through Microsoft Teams. Therefore, the Career Center would not have to schedule a make-up day when a FID is used. The Career Center can use up to (5) FIDs per year.

Students and parent(s)/guardian(s) will be informed of a FID through the Career Center’s notification system in the same way that school closings and delays are announced. Notifications will be distributed via phone, email and posted on the Career Center’s website.

The Career Center in collaboration with the sending districts have provided students with the technology; including district issued devices, to complete their school work at home. All Career Center activities are cancelled and students should not report to school on a FID.

Student expectations for FIDs include logging in at the time of their program session so as not to interfere with their sending school schedule. Student attendance will be determined by verification that the student logged in at their designated program time. Students who do not login will be marked absent. Students, who login at their program time, will have (5) days to complete their assignment.

Students or families who are not able to access the internet before or during a FID may contact their teachers or school office. In addition, the student can obtain a hard copy version during the next regular school day. Students will have (5) school days, once school resumes, to complete their learning activities/assignment.

All teachers and professional staff members will be available via email during a FID. This includes learning facilitators, counselors and principals. Additionally, this letter will be posted on the Career Center website at beattietech.com, under the Parents tab. Please visit the website for updated information.

Sincerely,

Dr. Watkins
