ERT students conduct Search and Rescue simulation

Emergency Response Technology students conducted a Search and Rescue Scenario in which they simulated a missing and injured hiker in a wooded area.

The class utilized drone technology with the assistance of STEAM Coordinator Mr. Bossong who is an FAA certified remote pilot.

With the assistance of spotters, a team of students entered the wooded area and located the missing hiker. Students did a full assessment on the patient, fully mobilized the patient and stabilized her leg. They then placed the patient in a stokes basket to then extricate her to a waiting stretcher for transport to a medical facility.

“This was an exciting opportunity to combine lessons in the classroom with technology used in real life situations,” ERT instructor Mr. Silnutzer said. “These life-like experiences are invaluable to applying what students are learning academically.”
