Chill Mobile benefits nearly 300 students during 2023-24 school year
Please join us in thanking Allegheny Health Network and the Pittsburgh Pirates for bringing the Chill Mobile to A.W. Beattie Career Center.
The Chill Mobile program’s goals are to improve individual mental health, extend the mental health conversation into the larger community and reduce the stigma surrounding mental health.
“The Chill Mobile uses evidence-based, standardized approaches to teaching strategies for recognizing and managing stress and anxiety,” Mrs. Goodyear, A.W. Beattie School Counselor, said. “It provides students with tools to utilize skills such as distress tolerance, understanding their self-worth and persevering through failure to normalize it as a part of achieving success.”
Several A.W. Beattie programs participated in the Chill Mobile program, which was made available to them. Chill Mobile professionals Karen Cooper, Emily Bodo and Leah Ackman engaged nearly 300 students when the Chill Mobile was at the Career Center. They most recently made a third and final weeklong visit to the Career Center.
“The Chill Mobile has been beneficial in teaching students skills to recognize and manage their own mental health, which is a part of being a professional in the workplace,” Mrs. Goodyear said. “Stress will occur in high school and throughout life. Having additional resources such as Chill Mobile reinforces the importance of being able to cope in difficult situations. It is a wonderful tool that has been very engaging with students. It teaches that self-awareness and resiliency are necessary and lifelong skills to be successful.”
Introducing this curriculum at the high school level also normalizes the importance of good self-care and positive mental health as students work to transition into adult life and the workforce.
“I love that we are able to partner with AHN and the Pittsburgh Pirates to teach kids the importance of positive mental health and self-care as it relates to their overall future success,” Mrs. Goodyear said. “The Chill Mobile helps provide our students with valuable tools to make decisions during crucial times in their lives and be able to cope with stress that often accompanies it.”
