Beattie students tour PTC Surgical program

Students in A.W. Beattie's Surgical Sciences program went on a field trip Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022 to tour the Surgical program at Pittsburgh Technical College.

Students learned about attending PTC and also got hands-on experiences in lab settings. Students were given the chance to get a firsthand crash course in what a surgical technologist does and even stepped in during some mock surgical simulations. Students also were introduced to and tried their hand at surgical scrubbing.

"These types of experiences are a key factor to opening up a student's perception of what a future as a member of a surgical team could present for them," A.W. Beattie Surgical Sciences instructor Mrs. Vincenzina Olszewski said. "The operating room is a "Hidden World," and these moments open that world up for students and hopefully spark an excitement for the skills they will learn here at Beattie."

We would also like to wish all Surgical Technologists a Happy National Surgical Technologists Week!

Students in the Career Center's Surgical Sciences program may choose to continue their education to become a Surgical Technologist or pursue any number of related professions within the Operating Room setting, including Sterile Processing Technician, Surgeon, Operating Room Nurse, Surgical Sales Representative, Anesthesiologist and more.
