A.W. Beattie prepares for school year with health, safety training

A.W. Beattie Career Center entered its new school year with safety training.

Staff participated in exercises for Command Excellence, Fire Extinguisher, Stop The Bleed, and CPR/First Aid.

“It’s important for our staff to always stay up-to-date on the best practices for the health and well-being of our students and for each other,” Executive Director Eric Heasley said. “This training is vital to the safety and security of everyone in the Career Center.”

Command Excellence is a customized global program to secure a safer workplace and educational environment

John Sakoian, First Tactical Director of Strategic Partnerships for Command Excellence, led training using the Career Center’s Emergency Operation Procedures. Sakoian has more than 40 years of law enforcement experience, 25 in a command position, and has trained more than 1,200 police officers and 7,000 educators in crisis incident management and active shooter training.

He utilized realistic table top exercises for scenarios including natural disasters, medical emergencies, hazardous materials, suspicious packages and improvised explosive devices, and active shooter training.

Staff also became recertified in Fire Extinguisher, Stop The Bleed, and CPR/First Aid.

Emergency Response Technology instructors J.T. Thomas and Cheryl Rogowski and Science instructor Tad Thayer led each group in training with the help ERT graduates Sean Boaks, Anesha Lambert-Chairez, Kayla Arnold, Ben Scariot, and Pat Hansen.
