A.W. Beattie prepares for new school year
A.W. Beattie Career Center’s staff prepared for the upcoming school year with two in-service days that covered a variety of topics.
The Career Center’s instructors first traveled to Steel Center CTC where they listened to keynote speaker Dr. Rick Rigsby who had a powerful message about the impact they can have on students. Dr. Rigsby is a former professor and well-known international speaker. Staff also enjoyed networking with colleagues from other career centers and shared best practices and ideas for their programs.
On the second in-service day, instructors spent three hours engaging with Dr. Mariha Shields who focused on social emotional learning and the role it plays in education. Dr. Shields, of ARIN Intermediate Unit 28, specializes in Special Education, Mental Health and Behavior Management and taught for more than 20 combined years in secondary and post-secondary education.
McCandless Sgt. Michael Cheberenchick, A.W. Beattie Assistant Director/Principal Dr. Jason Watkins, and Robert Scott, the Career Center’s School Police Officer, also engaged staff in a discussion about safety and security.
