47 A.W. Beattie students to compete in SkillsUSA

A.W. Beattie Career Center will send 47 students to compete Jan. 20 at SkillsUSA Districts.

Competitions will take place at Forbes Road, and Parkway West career centers, Pittsburgh Technical College, Rosedale Technical College and Local 9. Details for each event may be found on the District 8 website.

“I feel really excited and nervous, because this is my first experience in SKillsUSA, but I also feel prepared,” Avonworth senior Brandon Hammond said. “There’s definitely a lot of hard work and dedication that you have to put in throughout the whole process.”

Brandon entered the T-shirt Design competition, which was won last year by A.W. Beattie grad Nathan Arredondo at the district and state levels.

“I think if I’m truly serious in class and in SkillsUSA, (advertising design) is definitely something I can pursue in the future,” Brandon said.
