2021 Veterinary Sciences Senior of the Year to attend Ohio State

Congratulations to Deer Lakes senior Tori Allen who was named Valedictorian at A.W. Beattie Career Center!

“I’m very grateful and surprised,” Tori said. “I’ve never had something like this happen to me, so I’m very excited.”

Tori is in A.W. Beattie’s Veterinary Sciences program and plans to attend Ohio State to pursue a career as a Veterinarian. She was also named her program's Senior of the Year.

“At first I thought it was just being with puppies and playing with puppies and then I got here and it wasn’t,” Tori said. “There is a lot to learn. It’s a lot of studying, but it’s still a lot of fun. I liked working with my peers and learning as much as I could.”

Tori said she particularly enjoyed learning how to do physical exams, temperatures, grooming and nail cutting, particularly because they were all skills she could use at home with her Australian Sheppard Bullet and her Great Dane Delilah.

“Pharmacology was challenging, learning all of the medicines, memorizing them and what they’re used for,” Tori said. “Honestly, Physical Exams aren’t easy either. You have to know everything check at the nose, the tail and everything in between and all of the possible conditions.”

Tori also got help on most nights from her twin sister Haley who is in the Health and Nursing Sciences program.

“Even though she’s in a different class we always work together,” Tori said. “We usually work a lot together on medical terms and talk about what new things we did in our classes.”

Tori is in National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, and Beattie 360. Outside of school of school, Tori has job shadowed at Butler Veterinary Associates and Emergency Center where she got to do some hands-on work and witness operations. She has also volunteered with dogs in her community.

Good Luck Tori!
