2021 Robotics Senior of the Year to attend Cal-U
Congratulations to Hampton Township's Taylor Blair who was named the 2021 Senior of the Year in A.W. Beattie’s Robotics Engineering Technology program!
Taylor will attend the California University of Pennsylvania for Mechatronics and a minor in Robotics. He was in Beattie’s Carpentry program for one year and the Robotics program for the last two years.
“I initially joined the FIRST Robotics team in my sophomore year and through that discovered how interesting the program was to me,” Taylor said. “I saw how many opportunities there were to get involved and do something I’ve always enjoyed, which is building robots.”
Some of Taylor’s favorite experiences in Robotics include competing on the FIRST Robotics team and working together with classmates.
“I really liked the freedom of trying new things that you want to pursue while still learning the fundamentals about things like electronics,” Taylor said. “I’m hoping those experiences will lead to me being able to be an engineer of some sort, probably in the automation industry, maybe something environmental.”
He said the class could also be challenging.
“I think the hardest part was just understanding the many different aspects of the course and its competencies,” Taylor said. “You also have to figure out how to work as a real team with almost everything you do, and it’s great when you have someone like Mr. Purucker. He’s a friend, a mentor, a great teacher. I’ve learned a lot from him.”
Good Luck Taylor!
