2021 Non-Traditional Senior of the Year to attend CCAC
Congratulations to Deer Lakes senior Jaiden Cutright who was named A.W. Beattie Career Center’s Non-Traditional Student of the Year!
“It definitely means a lot, and I wish there were more non-traditional students like me,” Jaiden said. “Being in (Auto Tech) is a great start for a career or just to learn. If you’re a girl who knows a lot about cars, you can do a lot yourself or get something done at a shop for a lot cheaper and not have to worry about potentially spending extra money.”
Jaiden has been in A.W. Beattie’s Automotive Technology program for two years and plans to attend the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics (PIA) to pursue a career as an aviation mechanic. She was inducted into the NTHS (National Technical Honor Society), achieved the honor of Student of the Month, and recently obtained her State Inspection and Emissions certificates.
Her passion for the Automotive field stems from helping her “Pap” on his vehicles.
“My pap has always done this, and I’ve been around it for so long,” Jaiden said. “I figured it was the best fit for me. It’s something I’m good at and something that interests me. It’s something did since I was little and we bonded over it. It’s quality time that I like to have with him.”
Jaiden said she particularly enjoyed the relationships she’s built at Beattie.
“I definitely enjoy how close I am with the teachers and the fact I’ve made a bunch of friends here,” Jaiden said. “That’s helped me learn, especially within a group. It’s really nice having everyone here.”
Jaiden played soccer and participated in Track & Field all 4 years of High School. She played goalie for the girl’s soccer team, helping them secure a WPIAL Section Championship title. She was also a member of the stage crew for 2 years helping to make several DL Drama productions the huge success that they were.
In her free time, she enjoys working to restore her 1979 Chevy K10.
Good Luck Jaiden!
