2021 Early Childhood Ed Senior of the Year to attend Carlow
Congratulations to Shaler Area School District’s Abby Armstrong who was named the 2021 Senior of the Year in A.W. Beattie’s Early Childhood Education program!
Abby will attend Carlow University for Early Childhood Education in K-3 with Special Education.
“I was actually kind of scared to come here, because it’s a new school,” Abby said. “I just wanted to get the most of my education and felt there was a lot offered here for what I’m really interested in.”
Abby has enjoyed field trips, particularly with Kiddie Tech children to Soergel’s Pumpkin Patch, and infant procedures.
“This has definitely helped a lot to understand different children and how to handle different situations,” Abby said. “I also know it’s going to help a lot in college. A lot of training we’ve already learned, so we’ll be ready for that and Miss Cari and Miss Diane are very supportive with everything. All they’re going to do is help step-by-step and be there for you.”
Abby is in A.W. Beattie’s co-op program, which enables her to work in Kiddie Tech with infants through preschoolers for several days per week during class.
“I’ve gotten a lot of insight doing co-op and observing the kids closely and understanding their behavior,” Abby said.
Abby is in National Honor Society, National Technical Honor Society, French National Honor Society, and FCCLA.
Good Luck Abby!
