2 Emergency Response Technology students earn EMT certification
Congratulations to Hampton Township senior Jacquelyn Deah and Shaler Area senior Aidan Porter who recently earned their EMT certifications!
Jacquelyn Deah
Jacquelyn Deah braced herself each time she checked her email to learn if she had earned her EMT certification.
“I prepared but I wasn’t expecting to pass,” she said. “So, when I did, I felt a little bit of everything (from relief to excitement). I’m happy I did it. I had a lot of teachers that helped me.”
Jacquelyn said earning her EMT was a long-term goal so that she could serve her community in an ambulance. She plans to be a combat medic in the U.S. Army after high school. Her grandpa and uncles also served in the U.S. Army.
“I definitely feel like I’m prepared for the stress of serving and I’m used to the calm demeanor I will need to have,” Jacquelyn said. “I’ve loved the people (in ERT) and getting to know them, too.”
Aidan Porter
Aidan grew up watching his dad volunteer for the Etna Fire Department.
“Having watched my dad, I just grew up learning to love to help other people,” Aidan said.
Aidan is volunteering at Ross View EMS and plans to become an employee.
“It’s definitely relieving to have a job lined up after high school,” he said. “I’m definitely excited to practice as an EMT after a lot of studying and practicing for the test. I tried to prepare enough so that there would be no way that I could fail. My dad was definitely proud because he’s a paramedic. My mom is a nurse so she was very excited too.”
