2 Auto Tech students earn full scholarships

Congratulations to Hampton Township senior Eric Laus and North Hills senior Parker Geiger who earned full scholarships by placing in the Greater Pittsburgh Automotive Dealers Association competition at CCAC West Hills!

Parker placed second and Eric placed third in the competition against nearly 100 other students from other career and technical centers. Participants in the competition took a 60-question written test and also completed hands-on skills like brake, tire, electrical, and engine work.

“I definitely did not think I would be doing these types of competitions, but it’s pretty cool,” Parker said. “It’s given me an opportunity to do Co-Op program with CCAC and Schults Ford for two years. I had planned on working at a small shop, but this is the type of opportunity where you just can’t refuse it.”

Eric also will attend CCAC while working at Jim Shorkey Chevrolet.

“It was surprising to me that I placed because it was the first time I won something and accomplished something like this,” Eric said. “I feel like I know more than I think I do. It definitely gives me confidence in what I can do going forward.”
