On Saturday, October 26, 2019, Collinsville High School students Cawhan “Skeet” Smith and Ray’Sean Taylor were recognized by 100 Black Men of Alton/Madison County at their annual Black Tie Gala. CUSD 10 Director of Curriculum and Assessement LaToya Berry-Coleman received the Simmons Hanley Conroy Mentor Award.
Skeet Smith and Ray’Sean Taylor are participants in the organization’s Pathway to Manhood mentoring program. According to the 100 Black Men website: “Mentoring is the cornerstone of what the organization brings to the community by guiding youth in life experiences, fostering a positive self-perception and self-respect, encouraging excellence in education, and the pursuit of positive life-long goals.”
Ms. Berry-Coleman was recognized for her contributions to mentoring and empowering others in the field of education. (See related article.)
