I have had the pleasure of teaching English, Seminar, and College Career Readiness at  CECHS since 2007. Prior to that, I taught English from 2002-2007 at East Burke High School.  Teaching is my second career; my first was as a journalist and television producer in Virginia Beach, VA from 1996-2001, where I was able to travel extensively and cover many types of news stories from hurricanes to presidential elections.   I grew up in Louisville, KY before moving to the mountains of NC with my family as a little girl. I love this area and have always wanted a way to give back to a community that provided a solid foundation for me. I have always loved being able to share the world and all of its lessons with people.   

Communication is a passion of mine.  I am a graduate of Mars Hill College with a BA in Communication/Public Relations and of Regent University with a MA in Communication/Journalism.  I hold certifications in 9-12 English and K-12 AIG.

I enjoy telling people’s stories and helping them discover the chapter they wish to write in life.  In my time away from school, I like to pursue my photography, the outdoors, and racquetball!  I also enjoy travel and learning about the culture of different people and places. Since my dad served in Vietnam, I have a heart for veterans and their return to civilian life.  I am so thankful for their service to our country, and I believe it is crucial to instill the idea of service, community, tolerance, and dedication to our students! I am thrilled to be part of a school that holds these same ideals!
