"Reading is a passport to countless adventures!" ~Mary Pope Osbourne
Students are highly encouraged to read for a minimum of 20 minutes each day at home.
Tips for encouraging reading at home:
1) Set up a "Just Right" reading spot at home! Work with your child to designate an area of your home that is "Just Right" for reading. Help to make sure it is comfortable, quiet and free of distractions. They may want to include a blanket, pillow, stuffed animal to read to, lighting and/or a timer.
2) Make sure your child has a variety of "Just Right" books to select from. "Just Right" books are interesting, the child knows most of the words and understands what they are reading about.
3) Encourage your child to read aloud to you.
4) Get excited about reading and model reading to your child! Reading should not feel like a chore. You may want to include small incentives for reluctant readers.
