What is Balanced Calendar?

  • Students attending our balanced calendar program (sometimes known as year-round school) attend school for 180 days, the same as all other students in the county. The difference comes in the way that the days of attendance are arranged. Students attend school for nine consecutive weeks, and then they are out of school for three consecutive weeks.

The benefits of a balanced calendar include better skills retention due to a shorter summer time out of school, breaks land near traditional holidays when parents have time off work, short-term childcare is often easier to find, more vacation options for families, remediation given at different times in the academic year (during the intersession), reduced stress amongst both teachers and students with regular breaks throughout the year.
