Do I have to audition for Chorus?Currently no audition is required to join chorus. Classes are tailored to student abilities and no prior musical experience is necessary for participation. All you have to do is register for the class and show up with interest and enthusiasm.What will I learn in Chorus?
Chorus students learn music reading skills and vocal technique by studying music from a variety of styles and genres including Western classical music, world music, Broadway, and jazz standards. Singers also gain a basic understanding of the piano keyboard and study choral music history from the middle ages to the present day.What kinds of activities and performance opportunities are available to chorus members?
The chorus typically presents two concerts per semester. Numerous other performance opportunities are scattered throughout the year as well. In addition to choral concerts, singers have the opportunity to participate in the All-County Choral Festival, the Mars Hill Choral Festival, choral music workshops, and various community performances.What will I learn in Music Appreciation?Music Appreciation students study the history of various musical styles and genres. Specific attention is given to how culture impacts music and how music impacts culture. Students can expect to listen to and analyze a wide variety of traditional, classical, and popular music performances. This is not a performance based class, so students will not be required to sing or play instruments in this class.
