• North Carolina Music Essential Standards
     
    There are three main areas of music study that each hold specific objectives for all students, K-5.
    They are as follows: 
     
    Musical Literacy
     
    Musical Response
     
    Contextual Relevancy
     
    As each student progresses through the hierarchy of each respective grade level, the specific objectives
    build (or scaffold) on each other.  Examples of specific standards are listed below:
     
    Musical Literacy
    -Apply the elements of music and musical techniques in order to sing and play music with accuracy and expression
    -Interpret the sound and symbol systems of music
    -Create music using a variety of sound sources
     
    Musical Response
    -Understand the interacting elements to respond to music and music performances
     
    Contextual Relevancy
    -Understand global, interdisciplinary, and 21st century connections with music.
