WHAT IS AN EARLY COLLEGE?
Posted by:The Cabarrus Health Sciences Institute is one of three Cabarrus County Schools' Early College Programs. Attending an Early College allows students to complete a high school diploma and an associates degree in four or five years. Students start in their 9th grade year. Early colleges accelerate learning in a small, focused atmosphere with significant support. Students begin taking college courses in their 10th grade year.

HOW MUCH DOES THE HEALTH SCIENCES EARLY COLLEGE COST?
Posted by:Tuition at the Cabarrus Health Sciences Institute is free for accepted students. Additionally, fees and textbook costs are covered for the duration of the program.

IS TRANSPORTATION AVAILABLE FOR HEALTH SCIENCES EARLY COLLEGE STUDENTS?
Posted by:Yes. Early college students will have a school bus service just like traditional CCS schools.

IS THE HEALTH SCIENCES EARLY COLLEGE ON A DIFFERENT CALENDAR THAN TRADITIONAL SCHOOLS?
Posted by:Yes. The health sciences early college calendar will align with the Cabarrus College of Health Sciences calendar. The Cabarrus Early College Program (CECP) calendar for the 2022/2023 school year is posted on the CCS website.

DO STUDENTS AT THE HEALTH SCIENCES EARLY COLLEGE HAVE TO BE VACCINATED FOR COVID-19?
Posted by:Yes. To ensure the health and safety of our patients, all students and employees of Atrium Health and Cabarrus College of Health Sciences must be vaccinated for COVID-19. In addition, students will be required to receive a yearly flu shot.

ARE FREE/REDUCED PRICED MEALS AVAILABLE?
Posted by:Yes. Early college students will have access to breakfast and lunch meals. All students will have access to apply for Free/Reduced priced meals.

HOW IS THE CABARRUS HEALTH SCIENCES INSTITUTE DIFFERENT THAN THE ACADEMY AT NORTHWEST HS?
Posted by:The Academy of Health Sciences is a program housed at a traditional high school. Students attend Northwest Cabarrus High School and graduate in four years with a high school diploma.
Cabarrus Health Sciences students attend school on the campus of The Cabarrus College of Health Sciences. CHSI students graduate with a high school diploma, an associate's degree in one of five health sciences pathways, and receive college transfer credit to many colleges and universities.

IS MATH 1 REQUIRED FOR ADMISSION?
Posted by:No. Students can complete Math 1 at the health sciences early college.

DO STUDENTS NEED TO HAVE ALL A'S AND B'S TO BE CONSIDERED FOR ADMISSION?
Posted by:No. Grades are important, and students with higher grades may score higher on part of the admissions rubric, but selection criteria also considers students' skills, interests, essays, interviews, and teacher recommendations.

DOES THE HEALTH SCIENCES EARLY COLLEGE OFFER SPORTS OR BAND?
Posted by:No. Students attending the early college will have the opportunity to join clubs and participate In activities, but not the more traditional aspects of a larger school like sports and band.Sports sanctioned by the NC High School Athletic Association are not available at CCS early colleges. For students wishing to participate in sports, a traditional school may be a better option. Students will have the opportunity to participate in intramural-type sports and a host of activities that bring students together.

IS JROTC AVAILABLE AT THE HEALTH SCIENCES EARLY COLLEGE?

WILL THE HEALTH SCIENCES EARLY COLLEGE HOST A PROM AND OTHER DANCES?
Posted by:Yes. Early college students will have a prom and other social events hosted by the
school.

WILL STUDENTS GO ON FIELD TRIPS?
Posted by:Yes. Students will experience field trips and field experiences aligned with health sciences-related career and college opportunities.

WILL THE SAT BE OFFERED AT THE EARLY COLLEGE?
Posted by:The SAT, PSAT, Pre-ACT, and ACT exams will all be offered at the early college.
