ATTENDANCE OPTIONS
(EDUCATION CODE 35160.5, 46600, 48204, 48209, 48980)
Alvord Unified School District has established policies for students who wish to attend schools other than the school of residence through intra-district transfers and inter-district transfers, all of which are based on space availability at the requested school. Transportation is not provided for transfer students. Applications for all attendance options are available at the Instructional Support Services Office at 9 KPC Parkway, Corona, CA 92879. Parents may contact Child Welfare and Attendance at (951) 509-5032 for further information. The following options for requesting attendance at a school other than the school of residence are currently available:
INTRA-DISTRICT TRANSFER
An intra-district transfer takes place from one school to another school within the district. Once the intra-district transfer is approved it is considered valid until the student matriculates to the next school level, provided the student continues to meet the eligibility requirements. Intra-district transfers may be requested by those whose residence changes after the school year has begun. Eligibility requirements are based on academics/grades, attendance, citizenship/behavior and space availability. Once a transfer is approved; transportation is the responsibility of the parent.
INTER-DISTRICT TRANSFER (BOARD POLICY 5118, EDUCATION CODE 46600, 48204, 46601, 46601.5)
Inter-district transfers may be requested for students who reside outside the Alvord Unified School District and wish to attend school within the district. These are approved for one school year. Inter-district transfer applications are to be approved first by the district of residence and then forwarded to Alvord Unified School District for approval. Approval of inter-district transfers is based on space availability, academics, attendance, and citizenship/ behavior; and, consideration of the following criteria: completion of school year, continuing enrollment and specialized curricular offerings. Eligibility requirements are also based on Assembly Bill (AB) 2444 which provides that students entering grade 11 or 12 in the subsequent school year shall not have their transfer rescinded. Denial of inter-district transfers may be appealed to the Riverside County Board of Education (951) 826-6448.
A copy of the statutory attendance options is available at each school or at the district office.
