Community Service Opportunity for students:  One of our New Vision students, Macie Guyette, is doing a community service project.  Make a wish foundation has a closet where they do “ding dong ditch” drop offs while patients wait for their wish.  The teenage closet is empty.  There are flyers around the building a list of item ideas.  Please support in helping patients with their wishes.  There is a box in student services for the items until Friday, June 21^st. 

Attention Students who have lockers:  You will need to empty all items out of your locker by the end of the day today, 6/13.  Custodial staff will be cleaning the lockers and any items left will be donated to charity.

Today is national Corn on The Cob Day

The library will be closed during 1^st & 3^rd period today, 6/11 for final exam testing. Students will need to remain in study halls and in their scheduled lunches during 3^rd block. The library will remain open for those students who are scheduled to be in Math lab or ELA lab.

Today is national Web Designer Day

Congratulations to Ethan Becker for breaking the school record in the 3200 for a second time this season. Ethan also qualified to compete in the New York State Track Meet next Friday at CNS in the 3200 with a time of 9:33. Congratulations Ethan on a tremendous year, and best of luck at States! Go Tigers!

Also, congratulations to Logan Fitzgerald for placing 2^nd in Division 2 in the Steeple Chase at State Qualifiers. Logan had an amazing year. Congratulations to Alex Marthia for competing in both the high jump and the triple jump at State Qualifiers last night. You both had an amazing year! 

The second annual red vs. blue kickball game will be held on the high school turf field today 5/31 starting at 4pm. This fundraiser is held to support both the freshman and sophomore classes. Concession stand will be open. And any student looking to play or help out you can sign up outside room 206 any time before Friday. See everyone there!

JROTC is collecting bottles and cans in support of the Gregory Harris Military courtesy room at Syracuse airport.  Make sure to collect all your cans and bring them to the Can Man Redemption Center and tell them its for JROTC any day this week or to the bus garage TOMORROW 6/1 from 11 to 1. The Gregory J. Harris Military Courtesy Room at Syracuse’s Hancock International Airport provides support for all members of the Armed Forces.  It is one of the few privately funded military lounges in the nation and supports the 30 thousand soldiers stationed at Ft Drum and the rest of the Syracuse Military community. Please help this completely volunteer run organization by participating in the can drive.

Today is national Tea Day

Unified basketball had a huge come from behind win against Central Square last night, winning 40 to 38. The Tigers were down 12 at halftime but got hot in the second half.  Kalin Eipp and Darrion Stanley were on fire scoring 10 unanswered points. Joey Stewart got a big steal in the 4th quarter to put the tigers ahead and it was over from there!!!. The tigers play their last game Wednesday against Rival Phoenix. Go Tigers!!

The Boys Track Team competed at their Sectional meet last night at Westhill. Congratulations to Dylan Steele for throwing a PR in both discus and shot. Freshman Jesse Marthia competed in the Pentathlon and finished with a score of 1942. Alex Marthia jumped a 40 foot 11 inch leap in the Triple Jump, Sean McWilliams ran a PR 2:04 in the 800, Neven Dermady ran a PR of 63 in the 400 hurdles, and Rashad Bigelow finished the season with an 11.9 in the 100 meter. Ethan Becker ran a single event and was crowned Section Champ in the 3200 with a time of 10:04. Logan Fitzgerald ran two distance events, scoring second in the 3200 with a 10:10, and he was crowned Section Champ in the Steeple Chase with a time of 10:20.06 which also breaks the school record by 7 seconds. The State Qualifier meet is Thursday, May 30^th at C-NS. Come out and cheer the boys on.

Sophomores: Today after school there is a meeting for anyone interested in participating in this year’s kickball game against the Freshmen in Mr. Muller’s room (206).  Anyone interested in either playing or helping out should be attend.

Today is national Accessibility Awareness Day

Unified basketball fought a tough battle last night at home versus Hannibal. It was a back-and-forth game the entire game with Hannibal winning at the end Jack Bingham and Ethan Clark combined for 38 rebounds.  Late in the third quarter Molly Manis hit a big time shot to cut the lead to 2 pts. Emma Scott and Darien Stanley came up with big rebounds and big shots in the fourth quarter, the game was close.

The Tiger Terrace is open today, then closed for the remainder of the school year.

Today is national Chocolate Chip Day

Congratulations to the Mexico high School symphonic band, jazz, ensemble, and tiger marching band for their performances at the spring concert last night. A special thanks goes out to those seniors performed for the last time in Avery Skinner Auditorium. 

Congratulations to the Mixed, Select and Treble choruses for beautiful concert last night.  Thank you for all your hard work this year!!!  So proud of all of you!

Today is national Dance like a Chicken Day

Unified basketball lost a heartbreaker to Phoenix 39 to 38 last night. Trey "Speedo" Eastman was on fire as he led the team with 16 points. Darien Stanley had 10 pts and 3 assist. Seamus Obleman had 3 assist as well. Next game is Wednesday home vs Hannibal @ 4pm. Come support the tigers!!

The Mexico Boys Track Team competed last night at the OHSL League Meet at Chittenango. Special congratulations to Logan Fitzgerald for taking first place and claiming League Champion in the 3200 meter run and the Steeple Chase. Logan will go on to compete at Sectionals. Rashad Bigelow also achieved Sectional time for the 100 meter, and Alex Marthia achieved sectional height in the high jump and distance in the triple jump. Way to go Jesse Marthia on taking third place in the in the Pentathlon with a PR. The boys compete at Sectionals on Monday. Go Tigers!

Today is national Hummus Day

A special congratulations to Ethan Becker for breaking a 30 year old record in the 2 mile run at the Weedsport Invitational this past Friday. Ethan broke the old record of 10 minutes and 7 seconds by over 20 seconds with a time of 9 minutes and 44 seconds. Congratulations Ethan on your achievement. The Boys run their League Meet tonight at Chittenango. Go Tigers.

Today is national Teacher Appreciation Day

In their 1st game of the season, Unified basketball picked up the win @ Oswego 30 to 22. Isaiah pitcher and Darrion Stanley led the team in scoring as they caught fire in the second half to overcome a 1st half deficit.  Next game is tomorrow at Fulton at 4 o'clock.

Last night the softball team went to Phoenix and defeated the Firebirds twelve to nothing.  Hailey Comstock pitched a complete game no hitter. The bats were alive with support.  Tonight we travel to Homer.

Hear ye, hear ye! The Mexico High School Poetry Contest winners have been selected.  Thank you to everyone who participated in this year’s contest. It was delightful to see so much talent and creativity!  Poems will be displayed in the “Poetry Corner” of the school across from Room 107.  All participants will be asked to come to the main foyer at 2:00 today to get pictures taken and prizes awarded.  Please congratulate the following people if you see them today:

Congratulations to the Level 5 world language students that presented their Seal of Biliteracy projects yesterday. We are so proud of you.

The cadets and Instructors of the JROTC team would like to thank everyone who helped with our can drive to support the Daubek family.

It was your efforts to pass the word and collect and deliver cans that made this an incredible success. 

We received over 18 thousand cans and raised over 1200. Dollars.

The community response was overwhelming! Proof that if we all do a little together, we can accomplish more than we could imagine.

This organization supports children in local hospitals.  We are collecting band-aids.  Yes, I said band-aids.  For each box of fun, colorful, characters, or cartoon band aids donated, you will receive one hour of community service.  No plain brown or tan, they must be fun and colorful.  Bring as many boxes as you wish and get those community service hours completed.  The donation box is in the Main Office. All staff can join in the fun as well and be entered into a raffle for each box you donate. (Every other day announce)

We are celebrating National Poetry Month in our library. Come borrow a book of

poems or a novel in verse! See some great novels in verse in the hallway showcase. We will share a quote about poetry by a famous poet each day this week.

Yesterday, the softball team won their first game. 

Hailey Comstock threw a no hitter and the offense hit the ball very well and scored 16 runs.  A great start to the season.

National Honor Society is hosting a food drive for the Mexico food bank! The list of accepted items can be found on the hallway walls. Students may get 1 hour of community service per 4 items donated. Please bring all donations to the main foyer. See Mr. Deckman with any questions.

• JROTC will hold a can drive Saturday 30 March from 10 am to 2 pm at the Bus Garage.
• All proceeds will go to support the Daubek family.
• Anyone that cannot make the can drive on Saturday can drop the cans off at any time at the Can Man recycle center in Mexico.
• If you drop off donations at the recycle center, simply let them know it is a part of the JROTC fundraiser.
• Please help us get the word out.

Congratulations to all the classes on their hard work decorating the halls!  We are always amazed by the hard work and dedication that goes into this experience. Thank you for making this such a memorable year!  In fourth place, we have the freshmen.  In third place, we have the sophomores.  In 2^nd place, we have the juniors.  And with a perfect score, please congratulate the seniors! We also want to thank everyone for dressing up in their class colors.  Those tallies have been added to the hallway rubrics. Coming in 4^th are the juniors, the sophomore finished 3^rd,  2^nd place goes to the freshmen, and the winners of our winter spirit week are the seniors!  

Student council would like to thank everyone for their understanding as different events had to be rescheduled.  Due to the snow day and the 2-hour delay, we will now have a full-blown pep rally in April to conclude our spring spirit week!  We are excited to kick off spring break with class competitions. Stay tuned for more information as we get closer to this event!

There is an art honor society meeting today at 2:15 in room 126.

Attention Juniors: There will be a Junior Class Meeting today in the gymnasium, after school, 2:15-2:45 (officers + any interested class members are invited.  We will be talking primarily about Prom.)

This is just a reminder: if you received an eligibility packet for National English Honor Society and would like to be considered for admission, please make sure you submit all materials to Mrs. Bigelow’s mailbox by the end of the day on Friday, March 1 – that’s this Friday.

Any senior attending the excursion to go tubing and skiing on Thursday – please make sure you have all of your outdoor gear with you. Today is National ……… Hippo Day 

Congratulations to the Varsity Swimming & Diving Team on their performance at last night’s section  3 championship!  Finishing in top 8 for the Tigers were Stefano Magro in the 200 IM and 100 Fly, Jacob Upcraft in the 200 IM and 500 Free and Ethan Clark in the 100 Backstroke.   All 3 relay teams finished in the top 8 as well – those teams included John Rice, Stefano Magro, Alex Marthia, Kaleb DeMaree, Jacob Upcraft, & Jesse Marthia.   All of the top 8 finishers will be heading back to Nottingham on Friday for the State Qualifier meet.  Go Tigers!

There is still time to register for the class to become a certified lifeguard! The classes will be held the 21^st & 22^nd of February. Today is National ……… Baked Alaska Day

Ontario Bay Storm won Tuesday night 4 to 3 against Watertown Cavaliers! They will travel to Cicero today to take on Fayetteville Manlius. Wish them luck!

The Boy's swimming and diving team have had a spectacular run winning their last 4 meets in a row.  On Tuesday the Tigers beat rival Weedsport 98-85.  Leading the way for the Tigers was Johnny Rice, Stefano Magro and Jacob Upcraft who all had 1^st place finishes in their events.  The Tigers wrap up their regular season tonight when the travel to Jamesville-Dewitt for their final dual meet of the season. 

The Tiger Terrace will be closed today.

United Staes Air Force ROTC scholarship information talk will be held today, 12/19 in the JROTC from 2:15-2:45 p.m.  This scholarship can be worth up to $250,000.  Interested students should see Lt. Col. Freda or 1^st Sgt. Benjamin in the JROTC room.

Today is National ……… Have a Bagel Day

The Ontario Bay hockey team traveled to Canton this weekend. A tough loss on Friday against Canton but they did bring home a win on Saturday against Potsdam. Great job boys! Wish them luck as they travel to Utica on Tuesday to take on Mohawk Valley!

Today is National ……… World Kindness Day

A special congratulations to the Mexico Boys Cross Coutry Team on finishing 5^th in New York State at the State Meet this past Saturday at VVS. The boys had an amazing season, and they finished with a remarkable performance. Ethan Becker placed fourth and celebrated his hard-earned victory on the podium with the top 20 runners. Congratulations boys on winning the Section 3 title and for all your hard work this season. Go Tigers.

Today is National ……… Nachos Day

Everyone give a nice round of applause to the Mexico Boys Cross Country Team for winning a Section 3, Class "C" Title this past Saturday at VVS. What a triumphant achievement! The boys put a lot of miles into achieving this remarkable feat; but that's not the whole if it! Ethan Becker finished first place in the Section, with a time of 16:38, beating past course champion Drew O'Reilly for the current title. Congratulations Ethan on a noteworthy season! Logan Fitzgerald placed second (11^th overall)  with a time of 17:57, Everett Bryant placed third (13th overall) with a time of 18:05, Aiden Bartlett placed fourth (18^th overall) with a time of 18:16, Collin Fitzgerald placed fifth (22^nd overall) with a time of 18:27, Daniel Gagnier finished sixth (23^rd overall) with a time of 18:33, and Braydon Beasley finished 7^th (66 overall) with a time of 20:12. These top seven finishers will compete at the State Meet this Saturday at VVS for the New York State Title. Special congratulations to Sam Gillespy, Aiden DeGroff, Jack Deckman, and Hunter Herrington for helping the team achieve their goal. For the ladies, Aubrey Herrington finished 12^th out of 111 girls with a time of 21:28 to solidify her spot as one of the top female runners in Section 3. What a season, what an achievement! Let's go Tigers.

Congratulations to the Mexico Boys Cross Country Team on their commanding victory at the League Meet last night in Marcellus. They are officially League Champions! The top seven finishers are as follows: first place overall, Ethan Becker, fifth place was Logan Fitzgerald, seventh place was Everett Bryant, 13th place was Collin Fitzgerald, and 18th place was Daniel Gagnier. Great job winning this year, boys. Sectionals are Saturday, November 4th, at VVS. Come support the team!

Today is National ……… Snow Leopard Day

Congratulations to the Mexico Boys Cross Country Team on becoming the official league champions this season! The team also raced at Weedsport on Saturday and took second place. The top seven team finishers are as follows: Scoring first of the Tigers in second place was Ethan Becker at 16:53, placing seventh was Everett Bryant at 17:28, placing 12^th was Logan Fitzgerald at 18:00, placing 15^th was Collin Fitzgerald with 18:19, placing 20^th was Aiden Bartlett at 18:25, placing 26^th was Daniel Gagnier at 18:39, and placing 78^th was Braydon Beasley at 20:37. Special congratulations to Aubrey Herrington and Jack Deckman for breaking their personal records at Saturday’s meet. The Tigers have their League Meet this Wednesday at Marcellus. Go Tigers!

Today is National ……… National New Friends Day

Congratulations to the Tigers Boys Cross Country Team for sweeping the Chittenango Bears last night at the Mexico home course with a score of 45 to 15. The Boys had an undefeated season this year! Finishing first was Everett Bryant with 17:39, second was Ethan Becker with 17:39, third was Logan Fitzgerald with 17:48, fourth was Aiden Bartlett with 18:13 and fifth was Daniel Gagnier with 18:34. Special congratulations for personal bests to Aiden Degroff with 20:50, Braydon Beasley with 20:59, Sam Gillespie with 21:09 and Jack Deckman with 21:41. Special thanks to all the seniors on Senior Night, especially Dakota DeFalco and Gavin Nickolas for working tirelessly this season. The Tigers travel to Weedsport on Saturday for their final Invitational before Leagues and Sectionals.

Today is National ………  Chocolate Cupcake Day

Congratulations to the Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, Select Chorus, Mixed Chorus and Treble Chorus for a great first concert of the year!  Be proud of the work you put into creating and sharing music.  You guys did a fabulous job.

Last night in a hard fought first round of Sectional play, the girls beat South Jefferson 1-0.  The goal was scored by Allie Poissant on a beautiful break away with 2 minutes left in the match.  The girls travel to JD for a second round match on Thursday at 7pm.

The boys varsity soccer team played their last game of the season last night away against New Hartford. While ultimately defeated they held a very strong team off the first half keeping in 1-0. Joey Gaita had 19 saves the 1^st half while in goal! The boy can fly! Good effort by the entire team and thank you to our seniors for all the memories! Best wishes to you all!!!

Congratulations to the Tiger Boys Cross Country Team on their second place finish out of 14 teams at Chittenango on Friday evening. Scoring first for the Tigers at 5^th place was Everett Bryant with a 17:17, 15^th was Logan Fitzgerald with a 17:49, 17^th was Colin Fitzgerald with a 18:09, 26^th was Aiden Bartlett with a 18:34, 83^rd was Braydon Beasley with a 20:38, 125^th was Sam Gillespy with a 22:41, and 132^nd was Jack Deckman with a 22:59. Congratulations Tigers!!

This past Saturday the Girls Soccer Team traveled down to Tully and defeated the Black Knights 6-0.

Congratulations to the Tiger’s Cross Country Team on their victory over Homer last night at our home course. Today is National ……… Emergency Nurses Day

Great win by the JV volleyball team against Cortland last night. Reese Zemotel led the team in assists. Brynn Mack led the team in spikes and Matty Teifke led the team in serves. 

Last night the Girls Varsity Soccer Team traveled down to Cortland to take on the Purple Tigers.  The Girls came away with a victory of 3-1, scoring for Mexico was Allie Poissant with 2 goals with an assist from Mara Williamson and Giana Cutuli with 1.  Caprice Cutuli recorded 6 saves last night, the girls continue their Southern Onondaga County tour with a Stop in Homer Thursday night and a noon start in Tully on Saturday.

Today is National ……… World Farm Animals Day

This past Saturday the Girls Varsity Soccer Team traveled up to Watertown to take on IHC.

The Girls came away with a very hard fought win 2-1, to get the scoring started for the Tigers were Gianna Cutuli and a beautiful breakaway goal by Allie Poissant while holding the defender off to seal the victory.

The Girls are home Tuesday, Thursday, and Senior night on Friday for Mara Williamson

Attention Juniors and Seniors: 

• Mexico is hosting the ASVAB again this year. This test is for you if you are interested in joining the military or you have an interest in learning more about careers that fit your skill set. The ASVAB Test will be given on October 18th, at 8 am in room 226. Please come to student services to sign up. See Mrs. Muckey or stop down to the ROTC room with any questions.
• On Friday, October 6^th, Oswego County Counselors will be hosting a Manufacturing Day at Citi Boces. Companies that will be represented so far are Novelis, Micron, Huhtamaki, Shneider Packaging and many more. In addition, representatives from local manufacturing college pathway programs, youth workforce and other career resource agencies will be there to engage with students who are at various stages in the career exploration ventures!  If you are interested, please stop down to student services to sign up.  There are limited spots.  The deadline to sign up is Tuesday, October 3^rd. 

On Thursday, October 19^th, there will be an opportunity for juniors and seniors to meet with admissions representatives from over 40 colleges at Cayuga Community College during the school day.  Visit multiple college advisors and learn about college life and your education options.  If you are interested, please sign up in Student Services by Monday October 13^th.

Today is National ……… Good Neighbor Day

Congratulations to the Tiger Boys' Cross-Country team on their 23 to 34 victory over Westhill last night at home. Scoring second place for the Tigers was Ethan Becker @ 17:03, third place was Everett Bryant @ 17:21, fifth place was Logan Fitzgerald @ 18:04, sixth place was Colin Fitzgerald @ 18:27, seventh place was Daniel Gagnier @ 18:35, ninth place was Aiden Bartlett @ 18:41, and twelfth place was Braydon Beasley @ 21:08. Scoring personal bests for the Tigers were Aiden DeGroff, Sam Gillespy, Jack Deckman, and Hunter Herrington. For the Tiger Girls, Aubrey Herrington placed second with a personal best of 22:17. Maddy Greenway scored a personal best 28:22. Congratulations on a hard-earned victory!

Last night in another consecutive overtime match the Girls Soccer beat VVS 2-1.  Allie Poissant started the scoring with an assist from Anin O’Neil and in the 85^th minute Maddison Poissant tucked the ball away to win the match.  The girls are on the road to IHC of Watertown Saturday afternoon.

The JV girls soccer won on Friday against Syracuse 4-1! Scoring for the tigers were Jenna Butterfield, Sofie Madden, and Haylee Hayes, with a key assist by Angela Davis. Great game and effort from all

Today is National ………One-hit Wonder Day

Congratulations to the Tiger Boys Cross Country Team for taking first place in the small school division. The Tigers top seven runners are: fourth overall Ethan Becker with a 17:01, 7^th overall Everett Bryant with a 17:14, 20^th overall Aiden Bartlet with a 17:49, 30^th overall Logan Fitzgerald with an 18:13, 34^th overall Colin Fitzgerald with an 18:21, 44^th overall Daniel Gagnier with an 18:35, and 127^th overall Braydon Beasley with a 20:09. Aiden DeGroff, Dakota DeFalco and Jack Deckman Scored personal Bests. For the girls, freshman Aubrey Herrington placed 40^th out of 204 runners with a time of 22:46. The Tigers face Westhill this Wednesday at 4:30. Come support the team!
