  • NOTICE: All qualified voters will vote at the Mexico Middle School Gymnasium, 16 Fravor Road, Mexico, New York 13114 for the Annual Budget Vote and General Election held on May 21, 2024. This is a change from the District’s prior use of three polling locations (located at the district elementary schools). All qualified voters must vote at the Mexico Middle School Gymnasium, 16 Fravor Road, Mexico, New York on May 21, 2024.

    Voter registration can be done every day, by appointment, 315-963-8400 x5401 at the District Office, 16 Fravor Road, Suite A, Mexico, N.Y. Please make sure you bring a photo I.D. and proof of residency.

    Need an absentee ballot? A qualified voter may vote as an absentee voter under this section if during all the hours of voting on the day of an election if they will be: absent from the county of his or her residence; or unable to appear at the polling place because of illness or physical disability, or duties related to the primary care of one or more individuals who are ill or physically disabled, or because he or she will be or is a patient in a hospital; or an inmate or patient of a veteran's administration hospital; or absent from his or her voting residence because he or she is detained in jail awaiting action by a grand jury or awaiting trial, or confined in jail or prison after a conviction for an offense other than a felony, provided that he or she is qualified to vote in the election district of his or her residence. 

    If the application requests the absentee ballot be mailed, the application must be received by the district clerk not later than 7 days before the election for which the absentee ballot is sought (May 14, 2024). Otherwise, the application may be personally delivered to the district clerk not later than the day before the election. Applications may not be submitted more than 30 days prior to the election. The last day a person can request an Absentee ballot application in-person is May 20, 2024. If you are qualified for absentee voting and issued an absentee ballot, the ballot itself must be received by the school district clerk by 5 p.m. on the day of the election in order to be canvassed.

    MACS is now accepting petitions for nomination of a candidate for member of the Board of Education!

    The Board Member Nomination Petition will be made available on March 1, 2024.

    Each petition must be addressed to the District Clerk, Harmony Rice and have 25 signatures from qualified voters.

    Petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education must be filed with the District Clerk between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Petitions are due on April 22, 2024 by 5 p.m.

    Expenditure Dates:
    1st Expenditure Due - April 22, 2024
    2nd Expenditure Due - May 16, 2024
    3rd Expenditure Due - June 10, 2024

    Board Candidate information

    There are a total of two (2) openings on the Board for three-year terms starting on 7/1/24 ending 6/30/27. The candidates with the two highest number of votes will fill these two (2) seats. There is a total of one (1) opening on the Board to finish out a term for a Board member who resigned, starting on 5/21/24 and ending on 6/30/25. The candidate with the third-highest number of votes will fill that seat.

    Interested candidates must call the District Clerk at 315-963-8400 x 5401 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, in order to express your interest and arrange to pick up/fill out a nominating petition (available beginning March 1, 2024).

    Candidate petitions should be picked up with the District Clerk in order to verify eligibility to become a board member. A person can pick up a petition at the District Office at 16 Fravor Road, Suite A, Mexico, New York. Nominating petitions must be filed between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on school days when the District Office is open.

    Completed petitions must be turned into the District Clerk no later than Monday, April 22, 2024 by 5 p.m.

    The candidate qualifications are:

    1. Must be a citizen of the United States.
    2. Must be at least 18 years of age.
    3. Must have been a resident of the district for a continuous period of at least 1 year immediately prior to the election.
    4. Must be able to read and write.
    5. Must be the only member of his or her family residing in the same household on the school board.

    Please bring identification to confirm age and residency.

    The Mexico Academy and Central School District Board of Education Members are elected by the public at the Annual Meeting and General Election on the third Tuesday in May each year. Incumbents whose term of office expire must run for re-election if they wish to continue service on the Board of Education. 

    Anyone wishing to obtain a petition (available March 1, 2024) to become a candidate for one of these vacancies may obtain a petition directly from the District Clerk, Harmony Rice, at the District Clerk Office, Mexico Middle School, 16 Fravor Road, Suite A, Mexico, New York. Petitions must be filed with the Clerk of the Board of Education of the District by 5 p.m., April 22, 2024.
