February 13, 2024 Meeting Minutes

  • The regular meeting of the Warsaw Central School Board of Education was called to order at        

    6:30 p.m. in the Elementary School Building by Mr. Robb, Board President.

     

    Members Present:  Mr. Robb, Mrs. Royce, Mr. Grover, Mr. Tarbell, Mrs. Baker, Mr. Youngers 

                                 

    Members Absent:  Mrs. Tangeman

     

    Others Present:  Mr. Wilkins, Ms. Grisewood, Mrs. Monahan, Mrs. Burnham, Mr. Ellis, Mrs. D’Amico, Mr. Webb with Therapy Dog Dewey, Ms. Conable, Mr. Mahoney, Mrs. Youngers, Student FFA Members and their parents.

     

    Moved by Mr. Grover, seconded by Mrs. Baker that the Board appoint Mrs. Royce as Clerk Pro Tem for the remainder of the Board Meeting.  Motion Carried:  Yes 6, No 0, Abstain 0.

     

    Mr. Robb led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

     

    FFA Trip Presentation

     

    Moved by Mr. Youngers, seconded by Mr. Grover that the Board of Education approve the FFA Trip Request for an overnight trip to the NYS Farm Bureau Lobby Days in Albany, NY March 4-5, 2024, as proposed.  Motion Carried:  Yes 6, No 0, Abstain 0.

     

    Moved by Mrs. Royce, seconded by Mrs. Baker that the Board accepts the Minutes for the meeting on January 23, 2024, as presented.  Motion Carried:  Yes 6, No 0, Abstain 0.

     

    The Board reviewed the list of bills dated January 19, 2024 and February 2, 2024.

     

    Moved by Mrs. Royce, seconded by Mr. Youngers that the Board accept the Internal Claims Auditor’s Quarterly report as of February 4, 2024.  Motion Carried:  Yes 6, No 0, Abstain 0.

     

    Mr. Wilkins reported that turf interviews for the Capital Project will be held on 3/7/24.  He also stated that BOCES Superintendent, Kevin MacDonald, is willing to come talk about the BOCES budget.  Mr. Wilkins also spoke of Lobby Day in Albany.

     

    The Board held the first review of Board Policy 6190 Workplace Violence Prevention Policy Statement.

     

    Moved by Mrs. Royce, seconded by Mrs. Baker that the Board waive the second reading required by Policy 1410, with regard to Board Policy 6190 Workplace Violence Prevention Policy Statement.  Motion Carried:  Yes 6, No 0, Abstain 0.

     

    Moved by Mrs. Royce, seconded by Mrs. Baker that the Board approve Policy 6190 Workplace Violence Prevention Policy Statement.  Motion Carried:  Yes 6, No 0, Abstain 0.

     

    Moved by Mr. Tarbell, seconded by Mr. Grover that, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the Board of Education approve the following Therapy Dog Handlers and their dogs to participate in the Board approved Therapy Dog Program at Warsaw CSD:  Laurie Semmel with her dog Molly retroactive to 12/8/23 and Coley Webb with his dog Dewey retroactive to 2/2/24.  Motion Carried:  Yes 6, No 0, Abstain 0.

     

    Moved by Mrs. Baker, seconded by Mr. Tarbell that the Board of Education approve the Postage Meter Agreement, as proposed, and authorize the Business Administrator to execute said document. Motion Carried:  Yes 6, No 0, Abstain 0.

     

    Moved by Mr. Grover, seconded by Mrs. Baker that the Board declare the following items obsolete and authorize disposal in accordance with state law and Board policy.

    Moved by Mrs. Baker, seconded by Mr. Youngers that the Board accept, with appreciation, the following donation:  $440.00 and approximately 75 non-perishable food items from a Volleyball fundraiser organized by a WCS class of 2024-student member for the needs of the WCS students.  Motion Carried:  Yes 6, No 0, Abstain 0. 

     

    Moved by Mrs. Royce, seconded by Mrs. Baker that the Board approve the 2024-25 School Calendar, as presented.  Motion Carried:  Yes 6, No 0, Abstain 0.

     

    Moved by Mrs. Baker, seconded by Mr. Grover that, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, the Board of Education approve the summer 4-day work-week for the summer of 2024 (July 1, 2024 through August 30, 2024).  Motion Carried:  Yes 6, No 0, Abstain 0.

     

    Moved by Mrs. Baker, seconded by Mrs. Royce that, upon the recommendation

    of the Superintendent, the Board of Education approve the 2024-25 12-month staff holidays,

    Moved by Mrs. Baker, seconded by Mr. Grover that the Board enter Executive Session at 6:45 p.m. for the purpose of discussing the employment history of a particular person.  Motion Carried:  Yes 6, No 0, Abstain 0.
