As we enter the holiday season, the Veeder school community has continued with its longstanding tradition of supporting the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York. For two weeks leading up to the Thanksgiving holiday, Veeder families donated items and the students helped collect and tally items.
The culminating activity was a fun afternoon where students got to participate in a school-wide turkey trot. With a donated item as an entry fee, students had a great afternoon running the course.
“This opportunity allowed our students to participate in a project that was fun, but also community-based,” said Veeder Elementary Principal Nora Sullivan. “We are so thankful for our Veeder school community for not only coming together to support local families in need but allowing us to share the important message of giving with our students.”
After all the food items were counted, the tally was 1062 items collected in support of the food bank.
Shout out to Veeder third grade teacher Mr. Thompson for leading these efforts and shout out to his students for assisting. Thank you!
