Tresansky named Lisha Kill Middle School Principal

On April 13, the South Colonie Board of Education announced the appointment of Lindsay Tresansky as the next Principal for Lisha Kill Middle School, effective July 1.

Tresansky will continue her career with the district after serving as associate principal at Colonie Central High School for the past five years. In her role, she supported the executive principal, served as supervisor of the mathematics department, worked with parents and families, and supported students through various initiatives including the welcoming committee peer buddy system for new students. In addition to her roles and responsibilities as associate principal, Tresansky has served on multiple committees at both the building and district level and has displayed leadership in various capacities, most notably for founding an innovative academic space used to support students in college and career exploration opportunities: The College and Career Planning Center. 

“We are pleased to welcome Ms. Tresansky as principal of the Lisha Kill Middle School,” said Rose Gigliello, board of education president. “In her time at South Colonie, she has displayed a deep appreciation and respect for both students and fellow colleagues and continues to be a bright light for our graduating seniors. At the height of the pandemic, she led collaboration efforts with students and families regarding graduation and recognition opportunities and continues to promote student and academic success for all.”

Tresansky began her teaching career at North Colonie as a high school math teacher. During her time in the classroom, she taught all levels of high school mathematics, served as a content area specialist for elementary instructional coaches, and became a National Board Certified Teacher. She was also recognized for her efforts in leading professional development for staff as well as for growing the Breakfast Club Regents Review Session program for students. 

Her educational background includes a BA in Mathematics from the University at Albany, an MAT in Mathematics and Adolescence Education from Sage Graduate School, and a CAS and MSEd in Educational Leadership and Administration from the College of Saint Rose. Additionally, she holds the New York State Superintendent’s Development Program certificate from SUNY Oswego.

“I am honored to have been selected for the Lisha Kill principal position, ” said Tresansky.  “I am committed to creating a climate that supports our students’ social-emotional well-being and academic success and inspires them to discover and pursue their personal passions. In the coming months, I am looking forward to getting to know the Lisha Kill students, families, faculty, and staff in this excellent community.”

In conjunction with her service to the school district, Tresansky has served in various roles in professional organizations including the New York State Association for Women in Administration and the Association of Mathematics Teachers of New York State. She has also served as the Coordinator of the Suburban Council Mathematics Supervisors for the past four years and is the past President of the Hudson-Mohawk Valley Area Mathematics Association.

Tresansky is replacing David Wetzel who is slated to retire on July 1.
