Q&A with Tim Wright
What do you like best about your job?
By far, the thing that like most about my job is the people that I work with.
I also like the challenge of developing new applications.
What has been the most significant moment in your career to date?
Ironically, the most significant moment in my career occurred before my career even started. I was not the first choice for the position of computer programmer back in 1988. Fortunately for me, the person who was hired ahead of me, got another job offer and left after 2 weeks. His departure opened the door for me to begin at South Colonie. I am so glad he left.
What is your claim to fame?
I have several claims to fame. I won the Albany Area Chess Club championship in 2007. I once beat an International Grandmaster at chess…OK, he was playing 20 people at the same time. I’ve played blackjack with actor Robert Wagner and I have shaken hands with Mike Tyson.
What is your favorite movie?
The Green Mile.
What is the most relaxing place you’ve ever been to?
Myrtle Beach. I highly recommend Broadway at the Beach if you go there.
Ideal way to spend your free time?
I enjoy playing chess and poker.
What could you give a 40-minute presentation on with absolutely no preparation?
I could easily do a 40-minute presentation on Microsoft Access and VBA (Visual Basic for Applications).
Of course, if you do not understand geek speak, it might not interest you.
