South Colonie Board of Education to hold special meeting on Friday, Feb. 12; BOE set to vote on wrestling

A special meeting of the South Colonie Board of Education will be held on Friday, Feb. 12, at 4 p.m. to discuss the approval of adding wrestling to the district’s high-risk winter sports offerings.  The public is invited to attend virtually.

The Board of Education approved high-risk winter sports including boys and girls basketball, competitive cheer, and hockey at the last board meeting and South Colonie student-athletes began their season earlier this week.

“We just received notification that Section 2 will not approve a spring season for wrestling,” said Dr. David Perry Superintendent of Schools. “In the spirit of wanting to provide our student-athletes with a season, we were able to rework our sports plan by addressing recommendations from the district’s medical director related to our facilities and cleaning and disinfecting of items being used.”

More updates on the South Colonie wrestling program are expected following the board meeting Friday evening.
