Stacey Sebert, New York State Master Teacher and 7th and 8th grade Science teacher at Sand Creek Middle School was one of four teachers selected to conduct field research in Toolik Station located in Fairbanks, Alaska. The program will commence in summer 2020.
The Arctic LTER (Long-Term Ecological Research) site recruits middle and high school teachers to travel with a research team to the north slope of Alaska. This experience immerses teachers in the practices of science in the arctic tundra ecosystem. Teachers, like Sebert, will work side-by-side with scientists and graduate students to gain experience in the field and lab assisting with current research focused on the ecology of the Arctic.
Along with the field and lab components in Alaska, Sebert will also be able to incorporate her experience into the classroom by developing classroom activities with ARC LTER Education Representatives and scientists as well as presenting that implemented curricula at a National Conference.
Sebert was one of two teachers selected to participate in a multi-year project and will be able to participate in both summer 2020 and 2021.
