Five things you need to know about the 2023-24 proposed budget

The South Colonie Central School District will be asking residents to vote Tuesday, May 16 on a $122 million dollar spending plan that preserves all current programs and services and provides key enhancements for students. 

Here are the top five things you need to know about the 2023-24 spending plan. 

1. Updated Times and Polling Locations

Tuesday, May 16 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

2. Continued Program Support

Budget highlights include an increase in projected foundation aid (24.4%) allowing South Colonie to sustain programs and academic opportunities for students, many which have been grant funded through stimulus funds for the past two years.

3. Expanded Programming

Additional priorities include the expansion of ENL (English as a new language) programming, expansion of universal pre-K programming, strengthening the continuum of services for our special education population, and planning for both the sustainability of our programs, staffing, and facilities for the next generation of Colonie

4. Smaller Class Sizes and Student Pathways

The budget emphasizes maintaining smaller class sizes, enabling teachers to engage with students effectively. Additionally, student pathways will be enhanced to provide diverse educational opportunities including continued emphasis on the career exploration program at the high school level.

5. Bus Purchase Proposition

Student safety is our top priority. The budget includes a bus purchase proposition to continue with the bus maintenance replacement plan. This ensures that our students are transported on buses that meet the latest safety standards.
