A Colonie Central High School graduate is well on her way to success in college thanks to her studies at Colonie Central High School (CCHS) and Capital Region BOCES.
Ashlyn Knapp is a freshman at SUNY Delhi in the Veterinary Science Technology program and is taking 18 credits as she prepares for a career as a veterinary technician.
Knapp was recently interviewed by Capital Region BOCES about her success in their Pet Tech program, a career and technical education pathway CCHS students can take.
“I was very well prepared for college,” Knapp said. “For example, I knew how to use restraints and muzzles for small animals. I was able to show other students in my labs how to use them based on what I had learned at BOCES.”
“I was able to expand my knowledge from South Colonie and focus on the career I knew I wanted to pursue.”
Knapp said that she is excited for what the future holds and what she has already been able to do at SUNY Delhi—including administering medicine subcutaneously and through intermuscular injections.
“It’s fantastic. I really see myself as a vet tech, but you never know what the
future holds. Maybe, I will go farther with my education.”
