Homework

  • It is the belief of the Southampton School District that homework is a meaningful and integral part of the academic process.  Assignments should enhance the classroom experience by leading students to: better classroom preparation, reinforcement, enrichment materials and skills development.  It is our strong conviction that, since homework is so significant, the responsibility for accomplishment falls to four groups:  students, teachers, parents, and administrators.

    High School Homework Policy

    1. Homework shall be given on a consistent basis - regularly assigned to meet the educational goals of the subjects being studied.
    2. All homework will be checked, reviewed, and returned, but not necessarily graded.  This will be done in all disciplines without exception.
    3. Teachers must notify parents when homework is not being done.  Once notified, parents then have the responsibility to supervise the children at home and make follow up contacts with the teacher.  However, the initial contact must come from the teacher.
    4. Surprise quizzes shall comprise part of the process of checking homework completion and comprehension.
