Savannah Hydorn: Teacher Spotlight
Help us celebrate our next Teacher Spotlight, Mrs. Savannah Hydorn!
Today is Mrs. Hydorn's birthday!
Mrs. Hydorn joined us 5 years ago and we are so glad! Savannah is married to Matt Hydorn and their future Midget, Bo, will start Preschool this year. Savannah tells us, "I'm a mother to a crazy wild child, Bo, and a wife to Matthew Hydorn, who is an assistant High School football coach. What many of my students find shocking, is that I grew up on a farm and rode horses. My family loves going to sporting events. I don't have a favorite book but rather a favorite author, Agatha Christie. I'm so glad I get to share my love for reading with my 8th-graders."
Mrs. Hydorn tells us, "I've always known that I wanted to work with youth in some compacity. After deciding in college that teaching elementary was not for me, I had an amazing professor push me to teach English. If you would have told me in college that I would be teaching 6th-8th graders in Missouri, I would have called you nuts. I did tell one of my professors he was insane when he had me student teach 7th graders. If you would have told me five years ago when I accepted my job at Putnam that I would still be here, loving my job, I wouldn’t have believed you. But I love it here! At any point during that time, if you would have told me I would be finishing my Master's class and graduating with my Master's in Reading, I would have laughed at you. I’m so happy to say that I am officially done with my Master's in Reading and started my Specialist program in Curriculum Instruction on Monday!"
Savannah graduated from Nodaway Valley High School in 2012 and attended college at Graceland University. She student taught 7th-grade in Lawson, MO and student coached middle school volleyball. She tells us, "Putnam County was my first teaching job after college and this is year five for me. I majored in English with a focus in education, minored in AG business, and athletic training." Mrs. Hydorn just wrapped up the Middle School play, Crumpled Classics, this past weekend. When she's not teaching grades 6-8 English Language Arts, you can find her coaching Junior High Girls' Basketball and Track.
We are so glad your path to a career in education led you here! Happy birthday!
