Kyle Fleshman: Teacher Spotlight

Help us celebrate one of our #HomegrownHeroes, Mr. Kyle Fleshman!

We asked Mr. Fleshman to tell us about his journey into education. This is what he had to say, "When I was in high school here at Putnam County, I helped coach a 5th and 6th-grade basketball team and helped with some elementary basketball camps. I also was an A+ tutor for a middle school study skills class where I spent a lot of time helping them out with math. I really enjoyed both of these experiences and they were the main reason I pursued a degree in math education after graduating from high school."

Mr. Fleshman graduated from Putnam County High School in 2004. The halls of Putnam County were also where he met his future bride, Brook. After graduation, they both earned their degrees in Education from Northwest Missouri State University. They got married and began their careers in education. This is Mr. Fleshman's 6th year back at Putnam and 14th year in education. 

When asked what Mr. Fleshman likes to do in his spare time, he replied: "I'm not sure I have spare time. I enjoy almost any type of competition. Anything from Uno with the kids to playing basketball in the Show Me Games every year. I enjoy building or making about anything and learning new skills." In addition to teaching Algebra, Statistics, Trigonometry, and college math classes, Mr. Fleshman is also known as Coach. He enjoys coaching not only our Varsity Boys' Basketball team but also his sons' elementary-age teams as well. When Coach Fleshman isn't helping others improve their game or math skills, you can find him spending time with family. Farming, building a house, and making memories.

Here's what a fellow staff member had to say about Mr. Fleshman: "Kyle is a great team player and his effort is noteworthy. He utilizes his strengths and works to help others whenever they need it. For instance, he designed our new (user-friendly) activity period Google Sheet that works very effectively. When anyone needs help reformatting or reprogramming cells in their SLO sheets, Kyle is the man. I appreciated his efforts to make our high school staff's Christmas party fun and engaging. Kyle is also known for working smarter not harder. He makes notes regarding what works and doesn't work in his lessons so that he can improve them year upon year. We are blessed to have a great alum working alongside us!"
