Historians in Training
7th and 8th Grade Social Studies students have been stretching those thinking muscles this week! I have been affectionately calling this week "History Boot Camp". On Tuesday we talked about the differences in primary and secondary sources, (reviewed for 8th grade). On Wednesday, we did a station activity where students moved around the room and had to decide if sources were primary and secondary sources and explain why. We then reviewed the answers and put them in our H.I.T. (Historian in Training) notebook! Thursday, we did another station activity where students were given a question and two sources to answer the question. They had to decide which source was most reliable, if the source was primary or secondary, and why they trusted it more than the other.
One of our essential standards for the year is about trying to develop questions that help us find helpful resources. This week has been focused on that. I think we have had a great start to the year and are starting out strong.
I am excited to be back working with students after maternity leave and summer break! If you need to reach me, email is the best method, but I have my prep period from 9:49-10:33 am and my extension is 347.
