Rhyming Goes Hand-in-Hand with Reading
In Title 1 Reading classes, we have been working on rhyming words or phrases. It seems as though many parents do not realize how important this skill is to become a good reader. Rhyming is somewhat of a lost art when it comes to reading poems, but rhyming is used throughout society: in song lyrics, advertising campaigns, commercials, & catchy phrases. Children used to listen to nursery rhymes and other kids' songs that would entertain them with funny, silly rhyming phrases. In today’s world, children play on electronics, watch tv, or just don’t listen to music such as nursery rhymes. Do your student a favor and play rhyming games or read Dr. Seuss books just to make sure your student is able to rhyme. It is a very important skill for all early readers.
