Speech and Language Therapy Fun From Home!
Hope this message finds everyone doing well at home. There are so many activities you can do from home for speech and language therapy. The joy of our job is helping children to talk, saying sounds, saying words, answering questions, asking questions, and having conversations. To help your child all you need to do is sit down and have a full conversation with them. Pick a topic and enjoy! Stay on topic, demonstrate turn-taking, and ask questions. Tell a joke or two. Laugh.
Another great way to practice language therapy is by playing a board game. Games exemplify turn-taking, but they also provide opportunities to turn-take conversationally. Following directions is also an important aspect of board game play. Ask questions, predict, and guess all while playing a board game.
Lastly, a great speech and phonological awareness activity (helps your child spell and read) is quoting and/or reading nursery rhymes. I’ve provided a rhyme targeting the sound /g/ here. Additionally, there are many phonics videos on
YouTube to help with sounds too. Just type in your sound/s with the word “phonics”.
If you have any questions about your speech and language therapy during this time or want some ideas specific to your child, please reach out to me at dheine@putnamcountyr1.net. Make sure to have some fun while practicing speech and language!
