Families
Our families, schools, and communities work together to support our students. We are so thankful for your role in our students’ lives and education! We encourage all families to participate in their child’s educational journey as much as possible.
We’ve included resources on this page and throughout the Families section of the website to help you become engaged in your student’s learning.
Where should I start?
Family involvement is about more than just academics. Some of the best ways to become engaged in your child’s education include:
- Attend conferences and school events. These events help build relationships between families, staff, students, and the community.
- Encourage reading. Check out books from the library together and read as a family. Your local public library can help you access picture books, graphic novels, middle reader books, and audio books. Our school librarians can also help your student check books out from our libraries.
- Foster active learning. Encourage your child to ask questions, solve problems, and learn more about the topics that interest them. You can help model these skills by asking your student questions about what they’re learning in school. With younger students, social stories (like these ones from the Center for Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation) and role-playing activities can help build confidence.

Reading at Home
Help set your child up for success by extending their learning at home. One of the best things you can do at home is reading as a family — when you foster joy and fun experiences around reading, your child is more likely to become a lifelong reader. Reading increases empathy and attention span in both children and adults. Find a topic you both enjoy and get reading!
