It is the law for your student to be in school.

*Attendance is a key factor in student achievement, and therefore, students are expected to be present each day school is in session. * 

  Always refer to the student handbook for all Attendance Rules.

                            Below are some Attendance Quick Facts.

-Students must be present 3.5 hours to be present for the entire day

- Notes must be submitted within 5 days of the absence. Excused absences include a doctor’s note, funeral notice of immediate family, religious observances, and 10 parent notes per year. *A doctor's note may be turned in anytime during the school year.

- There will be no changes made to a student’s contact information on the computer unless a parent/guardian comes into the attendance office and changes the information themselves.

*NO NOTES WILL BE ACCEPTED TO CHANGE CONTACT INFORMATION.

*A PARENT/GUARDIAN MUST MAKE ANY CHANGES IN PERSON AT THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE.

* NO NOTES OR PHONE CALLS FOR A STUDENT’S DISMISSAL ARE ACCEPTABLE!

- There are NO SIGN-OUTS after 2:15 p.m.

MCPS Truancy Intervention Plan:

-3 Unexcused absences: (Tier 1) Letter sent to parent/guardian and student placed on attendance contract.

-5 Unexcused absences: (Tier 2) Parent/Guardian called to SHHS Truancy Review Board.

-7 Unexcused absences: (Tier 3) Parent/Guardian referred to District Truancy Review Board.

-12 Unexcused Absences: Petition to Juvenile Court.
