    School Community Council

    Minutes 

    Wednesday, February 21, 2024

     

    In attendance: Kendal Welker, Maria Jones, Sara Anderson, Julie Clark, Matt Mallory, Andrea Linton

     

    1. Welcome to Heritage Community Council

     

    1. We reviewed last month’s minutes.

     

    III. Approval of last month’s minutes

    1. Motion to approve Julie Clark 2nd Sara Anderson

     

    IV. School LAND Trust Funds spent to date

    1. Budget: $110,878

      1. Amount spent: $74.902.76

      2. Amount left: $35,975.24

      3. Percent remaining: 32.45%

      4. A large portion will be used next month to pay wages, and we are on track.

     

    V. School Business

    1. Heritage Elementary food drive was held 2/5 - 2/9 by Mr. Mallory.

      1. Mr. Mallory said it went extremely well. The Food Pantry said our elementary school performed the best out of the whole valley. 

      2. He took the kindness committee to the Food Pantry to sort the food.

      3. The food drive and sorting are the most rewarding activities for him. 

      4. Ms. Anderson said that this is their slow season and they had a lot of need in December, and they were worried about supplies, so this was very important.

    2. No school on Monday, 2/26 (End of Trimester Teacher Prep Day)

    3. Parent-teacher conferences will be on Thursday, 2/29, and Friday, 3/1. 

      1. Thursday, 2/29 will be a short day with release at 1:00 pm, and there is no school for preschool and kindergarten.

      2. There is no school for students on Friday, 3/1.

    4. The 5th-grade maturation program will be on Tuesday, 3/21

      1. We want as many parents to attend as possible.



    VI. Follow up on proposed funding for 2024-2025

     

    1. Proposed allocation for the 2024- 2025 school year (the budget will be about $111,210.00):

      1. Reading paraprofessionals for the TIER II reading program

        1. Purpose: aide support for the reading program

        2. Cost: $80,000

     

    1. AMITY Aides

      1. Purpose: classroom support for teachers and students

      2. We hope to put this on our TSSA Plan instead of using School Land Trust Funds

     

    1. Aide support

      1. Purpose: classroom support

      2. Cost: $21,900.00

     

    1. Computers

      1. Cost: $5,210

      2. This is for computers, software, and technology that the teachers use in the classroom.

      3. Kendal Welker made a motion to allocate the $5,210 for this purpose, Julie Clark seconded it, and it was unanimously passed.

      4. We will double-check on which year of the rotation we are on. 

     

    1. Software for Reading Inventory/Reading Counts or alternative

      1. Cost: $2,900

      2. We would use an alternative program if Reading Counts is no longer available.

     

    1. Matching grant for the library (JMW)

      1. Cost: $1,200

     

    VII. Other comments

    1. The next meeting was initially scheduled to be on Wednesday, 3/13/24, at 4 p.m. A motion was made to move the meeting to Wednesday 3/20/24 by Kendal Welker, Sara Anderson seconded it, and it was unanimously passed.

    2. We will vote and sign off on the new plan. Our goal is to increase

    proficiency in language arts by increasing Acadience scores by 2% in grades K - 2nd and RISE scores by 2% in grades 3rd - 6th. We’re already above the district and state average, and we would like to keep increasing that. 

    1. Nobody has signed up yet for housing for the AMITY aides for next year. Ms. Jones wanted DLI teachers to hand out informational fliers about AMITY aide housing to the parents at parent-teacher conferences.
