These assessments are used gather evidence of student learning throughout the year and to analyze and develop strategies in the classroom to make more informed educational decisions toward student improvement. Testing involves sampling student performance to identify and articulate progress in performance for individual students, groups of students, and to adjust curriculum and instruction to meet the learning needs of all students.
Formative and other ongoing assessments enable teachers to modify and adjust instruction using strategies to meet student needs and to communicate frequently to students as to how to improve performance. Informal diagnostic assessments along with progress monitoring probes will produce student instructional needs and the student's response to the needed instruction.
