The National Honor Society (NHS) is a nation-wide organization founded in 1921 “to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character in our nation’s secondary schools.” Today, NHS is considered the nation’s premier organization in recognizing outstanding students who demonstrate excellence in these areas and is one of the highest honors a high school student can achieve. Additionally, from its inception, this organization has promoted “high school academic standards, […] the continuation of democracy, and […] the betterment of the individual and the school.”

Parents and students who would like more information about NHS are encouraged to contact Ms. Jen Voigt jvoigt@lacrossesd.org.

How can I become a member?

Applications for membership for the 2024-2025 school year will open in the beginning of the September. Students who are selected for the National Honor Society will be notified in November, when an induction ceremony will be held.

Sanctioned Event Vs Individual Service

Sanctioned events are planned and implemented by an NHS member. In short, a sanctioned event would not occur if the NHS member didn’t plan it.
