Glendale Unified Board of Education Adopts Resolution Standing in Solidarity with People of Artsakh and Condemning Azerbaijan’s Genocidal Campaign
On September 19, Azerbaijan launched an unprovoked, large-scale, and genocidal military attack on the people of Artsakh following a months-long blockade. Reports indicate that Azerbaijan used deadly force, including heavy shelling of residential areas, which has resulted in significant destruction and the deaths of hundreds of innocent civilians, including children.

Horace Mann Elementary Named 2023 National Blue Ribbon School
The 2023 National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognized 353 schools, including 28 schools in California. Mann Elementary has been recognized in the “Exemplary High Performing Schools” category. This is the first time the school has received this honor. Ten Glendale Unified Schools have earned the National Blue Ribbon distinction since the program began in 1982.

GUSD Reaches Tentative Agreement on Wages with Classified Employee Union
The tentative agreement amounts to a total compensation increase of 7.97% and includes a $1.00 per hour wage increase, retroactive to July 1, 2021 and an additional $1.00 per hour wage increase, effective July 1, 2022.

Glendale Unified Will Return Elementary Students for On-Campus Instruction Beginning March 29
On Tuesday, the Glendale Unified Board of Education gave direction for District leaders to move forward with their proposed plan for a phased return of elementary students for on-campus instruction in late March. Elementary teachers will return to campus on Tuesday, March 23, following the District’s spring break holiday. Students in transitional kindergarten through second grade will resume in-person learning on Monday, March 29, and elementary students in grades three through six will resume in-person learning on Monday, April 5.

GUSD High Schools Receive Exemplary Program Awards for Arts, CTE, and Physical Activity & Nutrition
Thursday, March 14, 2019 - Two GUSD high schools named California Distinguished Schools last month are among 22 schools to receive an additional “Exemplary Program Award” from the California Department of Education. Clark Magnet High School received an Exemplary Program Award for Career and Technical Education. Crescenta Valley High School received two Exemplary Program Awards for Arts and Physical Activity and Nutrition. GUSD is the only school district to be recognized in all three categories and Crescenta Valley High is the only school to receive awards in two categories.

Wednesday, February 6, 2019 - The Glendale Unified School District Board of Education will employ an outside search professional to manage the search process for a new GUSD superintendent. GUSD Board of Education Releases Superintendent Dr. Winfred B. Roberson, Jr.
Wednesday, January 30, 2019 - At the January 29 Special Board Meeting, the Glendale Unified School District Board of Education took action by a vote of 3-2 to release Superintendent Dr. Winfred B. Roberson, Jr. from his existing contract without cause, effective immediately, pursuant to contract paragraph 11(c).

GUSD FLAG and Magnet Programs Now Enrolling for the 2019-2020 School Year
Monday, October 29, 2018 - The application period for GUSD elementary magnet schools and Foreign Language Academies of Glendale (FLAG) dual immersion programs opens this Thursday, November 1. All students living in and outside GUSD boundaries are invited to complete an application by visiting www.gusdmagnetandflag.com. Students are selected for elementary magnet and FLAG programs each year by a random lottery. Lottery applications must be submitted by January 31, 2019. Learn more.

GHS' Elizabeth Astor Among 16 LACOE Teacher of the Year
Friday, September 21, 2018 - Glendale High School Teacher Elizabeth Astor has been named one of 16 Teachers of the Year by the Los Angeles County Office of Education. The County's top 16 public school teachers were presented by County Superintendent of Schools Debra Duardo during the annual Teachers of the Year banquet held September 21.

Cerritos Elementary to Become GUSD's Next Magnet School
The GUSD Board of Education voted to make Cerritos Elementary the next GUSD magnet school, Cerritos Computer Science Magnet, beginning with the 2018-2019 school year. Cerritos partnered this year with Code to the Future, a leading Computer Science program for magnet and theme-based schools. Through this partnership, Cerritos students learn fundamentals of computer coding as part of their daily curriculum.

Franklin Elementary Urban Greening Grant Dedication Ceremony
On Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at 1 p.m., Franklin Elementary students, families, and community leaders will gather to celebrate the completion of their Urban Greening project. On August 4, 2016, Glendale Unified School District successfully sold its $70 million General Obligation Bonds, Election of 2011, Series C. The Bonds were issued as part of the $270 million Measure S bond measure approved by voters in 2011.

Glendale Unified School District is currently soliciting applications to fill five (5) open seats on the Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC). The Committee must have a minimum of seven (7) members appointed by the Board of Education of the Glendale Unified School District. It is a two-year commitment. The Committee meets quarterly.

Glendale Unified School District is currently soliciting applications to fill five (5) open seats on the Superintendent's Facility Advisory Committee (SFAC). A maximum of nine (9) community members may be appointed by the Superintendent or designee to serve on the committee. It is a two-year commitment, with the possiblity of a renewal at the end of the two years. The committee meets twice a month on Mondays.

Glendale District and Schools Recognized for High Achievement in Student Success
Glendale Unified School District has been selected by Educational Results Partnership (ERP) and the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence (CBEE) as one of 13 public school districts in California to receive the title of 2015 Honor Roll School District. Students Win Top National Scholarships
Mark Ansell, senior at Clark Magnet High School, took top honors in the Elks National Scholarship Program. Mark won $50,000. There were over 500 finalists nationwide. Cerritos Elementary Selected as Finalist for the 2015 NCUST Award
The National Center for Urban School Transformation (NCUST) announced on December 9, 2014 that 22 schools from across the country were chosen as finalists for the National Excellence in Urban Education Award. Among the finalists was Cerritos Elementary School. -
Ferraro v. GUSD Ruling
On December 5, 2014, the judge presiding over the Ferraro v. Glendale Unified School District court case ruled in favor of the District, dismissing the entire lawsuit. However, it is not lost on the District to continue to sympathize with the Ferraro family. -
