Students in the Nurse Assistant class participate in a clinical experience at Yale New Haven Hospital.
The Health Science Technology program at East Haven High School exists to help students explore careers and have experiences in the health care field. Knowledge, clinical skills and leadership opportunities in medicine empower students so that they can set and achieve goals.

HOSA – Future Health Professionals, is a student organization that provides many opportunities for students to explore, be empowered and set and achieve goals. It is curricular, allowing it to be seamlessly integrated into all classes. Membership in HOSA is strongly encouraged and a must if a student wants to take advantage of every opportunity available.
HOSA is student led, and has state and national levels. “State Officers meet throughout the year to plan fall and spring conferences for the HOSA members statewide. Any HOSA member can run for state office. Competitions in medical events are held at the Spring Conference and East Haven always has many medal winners. (11 medalists at the 2014 conference).
Some opportunities for leadership growth in HOSA include:
Becoming a local officer at EHHS
Becoming a committee chair for a particular project
Participation in Leadership Conferences
Compete at the state level for medals during the Spring Leadership Conference Attendance.* competition at the National Leadership Conference (NLC)

Mission Statement
The Mission of HOSA is to enhance the delivery of compassionate, quality health care by providing opportunities for knowledge, skill, and leadership development of all health science technology education students, therefore, helping students to meet the needs of the health care community.
Through the opportunities available in HOSA, our EHHS students have achieved a great deal. Below are the 11 medal winners at the 2014 HOSA state leadership conference.

* we routinely win medals in statewide competition. In 2014 we won 11 medals. Some of the events we have won in are: Prepared Speaking, Researched Persuasive Speaking, Medical math, Creative Problem Solving, Transcultural Healthcare, Nutrition, Medical Spelling, and others)
Medical Classes at East Haven High School
Medical classes are the only electives at EHHS which can be upgraded to honors level
Health Science Technology 1 (certifications are earned at a reduced fee due to HOSA)
Get college credit through the College Career Pathways Program (sign up early in 11th grade)

Learn and practice taking vitals signs:
Blood Pressure, Temperature, Pulse, Respirations, Oxygen Saturation, Pain Scale
An In-depth unit on the Heart includes how to take an EKG
Employability Skills (resume, cover letter, mock interviews, thank you notes, letter of resignation)
Pharmacy Unit takes up all of Term 3- drug reference books as used in college courses
Pediatric Unit takes up all of Term 4- includes our NICU unit with 25 week gestation premie
